Present Challenge

The December challenge which Terri Hill posed to members was to come up with an 8" x 8" painting on canvas on the theme 'Presents'. Here are a few of the results:

Kathleen Alexander had a romantic idea.

Carol Mead was thinking of a trip to San Francisco - perhaps with grandkids?

Nancy Calhoun has been painting bears lately while up in the Sierras and her 'present' took the form of toy bears.

Floy Zittin came up with a present for a titmouse.

And Terri Ford's present is sparkly. Incidentally, this Santa is based on her husband, Tim.

Presents at Viewpoints

Here is a partial result of the 'present challenge' all tied up with ribbons. Thirteen artists presented their ideas on an 8" x 8" canvas. Later we'll post what the artists were thinking.

And here are the "presents" through the window with Terri Hill's bold large watercolors to the right. That's not Terri in front, but Chris Beck, a Viewpoints special friend, who was partly responsible for the wonderful window display.

December Presents

One exciting part of working with other artists in running a gallery is that we challenge each other artistically. This December we are running a group show with the theme of "presents". Terri Hill will be showing her watercolors and in the one above her 'presents' are edible. Each of the gallery artists is challenged to bring in a 8" x 8" canvas with a 'present' theme. Stop by after Monday to see the results.

Fall into Color - Part Two

Kathleen Alexander is our newest artist at Viewpoints and we are honored to be showing her watercolors. This month she joins Carolyn Hofstetter for our Fall into Color show. Kathleen enjoys painting close ups of flowers and fruit using luscious dark washes and for this show she has worked on an amazing series of large paintings, beautifully framed, of grapes and persimmons.

Fall into Color

Viewpoints Gallery has been operating in the same location in Los Altos for over thirty years. We are an artist run business and the membership of the gallery has gradually changed over time. This month, somewhat by co-incidence, we have the oldest (in terms of membership years) and newest gallery members joining forces for a show titled 'Fall into Color'. Carolyn Hofstetter gets the prize for the longest membership at Viewpoints. Here are a few of her fall themed paintings. The next post will feature fall work of our newest member, Kathleen Alexander.

For this show Berni focuses on people at the beach, exploring tide pools playing in the surf or just soaking up the sun. We will host a reception for Berni this Saturday, October 10 from 4pm - 7pm. Join us for a special evening.

Green Foothills

This weekend we worked with Green Foothills on their annual fundraiser. Members each set aside two paintings, one in the gallery and another to be displayed at the Green Foothills event, to benefit the organization. It was some work but great fun to set up the displays.

Here is our 'set up group' in the gallery- Barbara, Floy, Karen and Jane.

And here is our display at the Los Altos History House garden where the Green Foothills even took place.

How Diana's Exhibit Came to Be

We were on our way to Carmel when my friend suggested using only three colors (magenta, phthalo blue and yellow) plus white. We had the colors with us so began at Pacific Grove and continued painting with this limited palette for 4 days.

And Diana has been using the same four colors ever since!
