Goodbye Gold
I was not thrilled with how this image looked on the previous blog post - so it got reworked. I decided the gold paint was making it look to dull and most of it is now gone. Instead I used bits of opaque tints where I wanted accents. I'm happier with this and guess my experiment with iridescent paints is at an end - for the time being anyway.

farm girl reports
Looking back on my childhood in Connecticut, where I "worked" for my dad who sold milk, and eggs, and had a slew of horses and other animals, I realized that, especially lately, my life on the farm had a huge impact on what I am doing today. What I am doing right now is creating and editing paintings of farm life here in the Bay Area...with the eye to hoping that this phenomenom does not disappear from the Silicon Valley...which, after all, was originally the home of the apricot and cherry orchards and then some.
Some of my favorite farm lands are the Duveneck Ranch in Los Altos Hills, the Picchetti Winery in Cupertino, the Cooper-Garrod Stables in the Saratoga Hills, and various barns over in Half Moon Bay...hopefully I can soon post some pictures of my paintings.

farmgirl??
We now have six gallery members contributing to this blog: Floy Zittin, Nancy Calhoun, Terri Ford, Terri Hill, Jean Prophet and "farmgirl". The last is a bit mysterious but does have an explanation.

Iridescent Paints
Nancy offered to let me use some of her iridescent and duochrome paints from Daniel Smith. I was so impressed with her plastic storage paint box.
Mine looks like this
and I must admit I spend a considerable amount of time searching for a tube I'm looking for.
Nancy thought the iridescent paints might work well for a hummingbird painting so I gave it a go.
I didn't like the effect so much on the bird itself and ended up painting it in the conventional manner but almost everything else in the painting has a bit of the iridescent paint.
